Your Wait is Over, My Third Book is Available!!

“The Doctors Guide to Smart Career Alternatives and Retirement,” is now available. This is the third book I’ve published in the last 16 months. No wonder I feel so busy. I wrote this one especially for the physicians (one third of you) who want to retire, cut back, or change to a nonclinical career in the next few years.

My first book, “The Doctors Guide to Starting Your Practice Right,” guided you through a smooth transition out of residency and into your first job. The second book, “The Doctors Guide to Eliminating Debt,” was all about the philosophy, and nuts and bolts of eliminating, not managing, your personal debt. This third book is for those of you who want to make a change. Either you need a career overhaul, or you are ready to leave clinical medicine for good.

The book begins with exploring the reasons driving your desire to make a change. If you don’t resolve this, it may carry over to whatever you do next. Once you understand your motivation you can explore your options.

The first option is making changes to your current working situation. Sometimes a simple change, like removing a diagnosis you don’t like to treat, or switching to half time, can bring a new life to you. I explore several options and provide examples of several doctors who made changes in how they worked. It improved their lives, they become happier and continued to practice longer.

The next option is to leave the clinical setting and take your knowledge into a whole new field, a nonclinical field. You have a good set of skills and are very marketable in many other fields. I explore some of those fields and share the stories of several doctors who have done this as well.

If neither one of those smart career alternatives are right for you, retirement might be just what the doctor ordered. We will all reach this point eventually. Here is what you need to know to make the transition out of clinical practice and move on to the life of leisure. You have earned it so now is the time to enjoy yourself.

Throughout the book I share what worked for me in my journey and how it all unfolded. I’ve also gathered the stories of six other doctors who have made a smart change in their careers.

Today, I no longer practice medicine. I spend my time traveling, writing books and blogs and teaching personal finance to doctors from the prospective of an insider to the medical field. I enjoy teaching both in big groups, as a key note speaker, as well as one-on-one for the busy professional who wants to get back on track financially, get their debt eliminated, secure their retirement and move on to more interesting goals. Some of you are just too busy to take the time to figure it out on your own. If you are one of those busy professionals, contact me and we will explore the possibility of my helping you through it all. You can be debt free or retired a lot sooner than you think.

If you are in the one third of all physicians who want to retire, cutback, or change to a nonclinical career in the next few years, don’t make a move until you read this book. If you are ready to retire, you will find a lot of helpful tips to guide you through the process. There are many more options than just quitting to play golf every day. Pick up the book and get started on your next great adventure.
Best of luck to you all. I know you will benefit from reading my new book, “The Doctors Guide to Smart Career Alternatives and Retirement.”

P.S. Some of you who have been following along with me on this journey have expressed interest in having an autographed copy of the book when it became available. If you are one of them, contact me and I’ll make it happen.
