Fawcett’s Favorites 1-28-19

Every week I run into a few articles that I feel are especially valuable, so each Monday I plan to share some of the best with you, my readers. I hope you find them helpful.

This week’s favorites include fighting burnout, reading more, improving habits, and things 1099 independent contractors need to know. Happy reading!

I didn’t understand how important reading for fun was to our health until I read, In Battle Against Doctor Burnout, Reading–for Fun–is Fundamental written by Sara Berg for the AMA. Since I retired, I upped my reading quota and read 77 books last year. Maybe reading kept me from burning out during my 23 years in surgery.

So if you are going to start reading, how about How to Read 100 Books in a Year by Kyle Renke at Relentless FI. I thought my 77 books was great until I read this. Don’t forget to put one of my Doctors Guide Books on your list.

Wanting to change a few habits this year? Like maybe reading more?  The Power of the Habit Snowball may be just the ticket.  Happy in the Hollow penned this one. Cleaver idea to use the debt free snowball idea on your habits. Concentrating on just one habit at a time. Then you don’t have to do all of them on your new year’s resolution list at the same time. We are the summation of our habits so make sure they are good ones.

If you are working as a 1099 independent contractor, you should read The White Coat Investor’s great post on 1099 Independent Contractors Can’t Ignore These 11 issues. Even if you have been an independent contractor for years, you will likely pick up some important tips.

I hope you enjoy these articles as well as I did. I look forward to updating you again next week with a few more articles I found especially interesting.
