This year on October 22&23 I will have the privilege of being a mentor at the SEAK Non-Clinical Careers for Physicians Conference in Chicago. This is the meeting that sparked the interest in starting my business “Prescription for Financial Success” to help improve the financial and personal lives of doctors all across the nation. It also led to my writing the series of books guiding doctors through this realm. The first book, “The Doctors Guide to Starting Your Practice Right” was released in May and the second book, “The Doctors Guide to Eliminating Debt” is due out in October. The third book is currently being edited for release the first part of next year. Due out soon is a series of interview with doctors in conjunction with each book.
If you have ever contemplated leaving the clinical practice of medicine and trying something else, maybe with a little less stress and no call, that takes advantage of the vast amount of knowledge of medicine you have accumulated, this is your course. Hundreds of physicians have made a successful transition to a non-clinical career after attending the SEAK Non-Clinical Careers for Physicians Conference.
Let’s take a quick look at just a few of them:
Tom is a 43 year old physician who was unhappy with his practice and decided he needed to make a change for both himself and his family. He attended the 2014 SEAK Non-Clinical Careers Conference and Job Fair in Chicago. He listened to speakers, spoke with mentors and met with prospective employers. At the conference, Tom obtained a 20 hour a week, work from home non clinical position which he loves. He also got the confidence to write and get published a book assisting other physicians.
After 24 years of working hard as an OBGYN she decided to attend the SEAK Non-Clinical Careers Conference. She met many doctors like herself who had no idea what to do next. Michelle learned about many other choices that exist for doctors outside of clinical medicine. She got an opportunity to speak with companies that were looking for doctors to work for them. Kristin came to the SEAK Non-Clinical Careers Conference after practicing as a cosmetic surgeon and at the conference she was very relieved to find other physicians who felt the same way as she did about traditional clinical practice. As a pediatric hospitalist she attended the Non-Clinical Careers Conference.
